DESI FOOD, INTRODUCED THE SCIENCE-BACKED WAY
From first tastes of dal to family meals. A day-by-day guide that works beautifully whether you spoon-feed or let your baby lead.
No perfect plates, no 100-foods pressure — just real food, at your baby's pace.
Starting solids shouldn't need spreadsheets or late-night searching. First Nivala tells you what to offer each day, and how to serve it safely, so you can enjoy the mealtime.
At this age, variety, iron, allergen timing and safe textures matter far more than counting calories. First Nivala handles those rules behind the scenes, so you can enjoy feeding your baby.
"Milk is still their main food until one. Solids right now are for practice, exploration and fun — not for finishing the bowl."
Pick an age and how your family eats. These are real dishes from the First Nivala library.
Vegetarian with egg. Every dish shows both serving ways.
Allergen introduction guidance has changed since the landmark LEAP trial: from waiting, to introducing common allergens early in the first year, then continuing regular exposure.
Each common allergen is introduced on its own day, with no other new food alongside it, so you always know what your baby is trying for the first time.
New allergens are planned for the morning meal, so you are with your baby and can keep an eye on them for the rest of the day.
Every allergen comes in a baby-safe form: nuts and seeds ground or as smooth, thinned butters, and egg always well cooked.
After the first taste, the plan brings each allergen back a few times a week, because eating it regularly is advised to help keep tolerance.
Stop the food and speak to your doctor. In an emergency, call emergency services. In the app, mark the food as "reacted to" and it comes out of future plans until you're ready.
Severe eczema or a known food allergy? Talk to your paediatrician before starting allergens. The app asks this before your plan begins.
Based on guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA). Read the full safety guide →

When Aaryan turned six months, I couldn't wait to start solids. Then the questions began. What do I give him today? Is there a choking risk? When do allergens come in? Is he getting enough iron? Every morning I was juggling three or four tabs just to decide what to feed my own baby — and almost nothing was built for Indian food, our recipes, our everyday spices.
So I did what I do best — made sense of the mess. I trained in baby-led weaning through Gill Rapley's course, read the guidance, and kept what's proven. Then I built the calm plan I wished I'd had. Real Indian food. Allergens and iron handled with care. Spoon-fed or baby-led. No pressure to finish the bowl.
Four pillars behind every recommendation — safe, nourishing, and rooted in the way South Asian families cook.
Built mainly on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), alongside the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN): iron early, allergens introduced early and kept up, no added salt or honey under one and no added sugar under two.
Recipes developed and perfected with a Le Cordon Bleu–trained chef, so baby food is real food: well made, full of flavour, and easy to cook in a home kitchen.
Gentle spices like jeera, elaichi, haldi and gluten-free hing; soothing dals; millets like ragi and jowar — alongside global staples, so babies grow up loving the food their family eats.
Each food comes with age-by-age guidance on how to cook, cut and serve it safely — from smooth purées to soft finger-length pieces — whether you spoon-feed or follow baby-led weaning.
